It may have been four long years since the last Labelexpo Europe, but the engineers at Screen in Japan have been busy working on a series of innovations. Make no mistake, these are not old innovations that are repackaged for the expo, these are genuinely major developments, set to build on the success that Screen have had in the ANZ market with Jet Technologies, their local partner in the region.
The L350UV is already the most popular inkjet press in the region, with a string of installations in 2023 reaffirming its status, built on outstanding reliability of the press, together with strong localised service provided by Jet Technologies and Screen. Launched at Labelexpo, will be a digital primer, meaning that the SAI will be able to prime directly beneath the printed image, not all over the material, but just beneath the print. The benefits of this will be many, with perhaps the greatest potential on uncoated paper, to reduce inkjet bleed further and make the L350UV a genuine press for the wine and spirits segment.
Screen and Nilpeter will also be demonstrating their joint hybrid press, combining the best of the L350UV’s inkjet features, together with Nilpeter’s versatile FA platform, where virtually any combination of flexo, screen, cold foil, hotfoil, die cutting…etc are available. The L350UV has proven to be an extremely reliable press, able to print all manner of work at 60m/min (50m/min with opaque white), regardless of print repeat, number of colours and so forth. This lends itself to running inline as a hybrid press, where all of the processes can be easily and quickly synchronised to enable inkjet to truly enter print runs that until now have been the sole domain of flexo.
David Reece, Sales Director of Jet Technologies, says that “these developments are the result of requests from major clients, who have loved their L350UV presses and wanted to use them for additional markets. We have a number of users who are onto their second L350UV press and I have no doubt that it will not be long before we have clients taking advantage of these new developments.”
Not satisfied to stop with the L350UV, Screen has also launched the Pac520P – a water-based inkjet press that is aimed at the paper packaging sector, able to print at the highest quality at 75 m/min onto a wide range of paper substrates at a maximum of 520mm width. With the shift in packaging from plastic to paper, there is a rapidly-growing market and Screen is eager to be a pioneer in this space, with the water-based ink suitable for all manner of food applications.
And for those wanting an even-wider press, there is the Pac830P, similarly based on water-based inkjet running at 75 m/min, with end-use applications such as the shrink film and other flexible packaging sectors.
David Reece adds: “The Pac520P and now Pac830P show how committed Screen is to the packaging sector and they are now showing the benefit of decades of experience in inkjet. As their partner in ANZ, we have been privy to these developments for some time and to see them come to fruition is exciting for us and our clients.”
With Labelexpo around the corner, Jet Technologies and Screen are taking appointments for private viewings of these new presses. To make a booking, please email onovita@jet-ap.com
