Recyclability and sustainability focus for DFC

by Matthew Callahan

There was constant traffic on the DFC Packaging stand at APPEX, with visitors keen to find out more about sustainable solutions to cater for the complete packing process across a diverse range of applications and industries.

Simon Martin, Sales Director, said the company’s display had a strong focus on locally-made materials and innovations to reduce manufacturing inputs and make recycling easier.

“We are absolutely committed to improving the recyclability and sustainability of our products as we continue to chase the standards set in the APCO covenants,” Simon explained.

“There’s no question that demand for more sustainable products is growing, and we are responding with products we combine locally to meet APCO compliance and mono-material trays which not only provide cost advantages but also enable simplified or single-stream recycling,” Simon reported.

Applications showcased the versatility of the company’s range of packaging equipment, and selection of flexible, slitting and shrink-wrap films, which include Polyolefin FZ1 and Polyolefin cross-linked ZF4 and FZ6 shrink films, BOPP films, lidding and laminating films and pouches.

“There has been strong interest from visitors in everything from tray sealers to vacuum packs and shrink-sleeve labels, flexible pouches and even eco-friendly cellophane bags manufactured from a wood pulp base – a novel product that Haigh’s Chocolates have already adopted,” he added.

DFC’s films can be slit, converted and even printed prior to supply, and its packaging machines are supported by the company’s Australian-based engineering and technical support team.
